You Can Tell a lot about Someone Just From Their Shoes…
That was the tweet I read yesterday scanning through the “design research” related tweets. Author, speaker and researcher Brenda Laurel apparently quoted talking about how ethnography (the research technique thats all about observation), was totally amazing because you can tell alot about someone just by looking at their shoes.
The first thng that came to my head as a guy wearing rabbit feet slippers to an interview- knowing full well that ethnographers were coming, he wanted to screw with the dataset.. have fun figuring me out.
Its dangerous to rely on just one simple technique like ethnography for all your research needs. And god help ya if yer participants get wind of your quick analysis methods, I knowI’d do the same, break out the fuzzy bunny feet, i’m curious what your observations would be- telling no doubt.
