An interesting topic spun up today at lunch. What is with social media. Peeps that were on the far edge of it, and then dived into with sheer force of utter me=cake’ism have manifested a new playground of suckers, promos and pimps.
You, me, them, we’re all suckers for the most part. We’re in the scene whether we like or not simply by participating in the pit of social blah blah blah. The only way we get out of suckerdom is by rejecting to take the offer home and sleep with it. In other words, its not everything, its only been with us for a few years now, its not like humanity was nada before it arrived to the table, ummm hello. Promo, or promo-hos are the folks that dance in the moonlight of social media, they can’t get it outa their system. 24/7 come hell or high water they are on the edge of social media, beyond the normal means neccessary they are consumed by its ever waking edge. I’ve been a ho before, its ok, its not great. Perspective is better.
Right now the biggest battle going on is a battle of pimpdom. Who can be a bigger, better, more in your face pimp for social media? Pimps see social media so blindly that they must educate you who hasn’t seen it all yet, despite the fact you are in it and or have been seeing it, seasons 1 and 2 anyways and are fully aware of it. Oh no, a pimp is the new cake, they not only are the cake, they brought the cake, and you should be thankful to even know of cake. Pimps come out because of opportunity in the scene. There is money to be had in educating the meek. New souls need reminders on to live in the new connective goodness, and cake bearing pimps are all too eager to inform you, and charge you along the way. I find most pimps are typically over zealous in their approaches and typically out of work to boot. They have optimal time to preach, more than a mere sucker.
So how do you not be a sucker, promo-ho or pimp and still be in the scene? Well first, stand back and realize that just being humble and human isn’t all that bad. Second, its ok to follow the tech, the connective goodness, but weary of the deep preach, even this blog post alone is a bit preachy but it just came to me and i had it get it out.
Suckers, its ok, your a technically just addicted to data and stuff, thats like half the planet not so bad, but we can always learn from those who have attained wisdom through traditional old school analog channels.
Promo-hos, i get it, you wanna dance in the moonlight, but take a breather every now and then. Remember the edge does you little if you can’t act on it. More info is a semi-thrill, but inventing tomorrow is a thrill like no other, start concepting, draw, express, reflect.
Pimps, well, we shouldnt get down on ya too much, you are out to carve out a lunchbox full of desire and goodness and well it’d be a shame to come down on that. But pimps know this- you BS is seen, recognized and willfully blocked out. You talk of authentic conversations for clients, but you yourself need to be just as authentic. A true pimp is blind to the end user. Identity unknown, unrecoginized, seamless and embraced.
Pimps and promohos need to be cautious of their wake because their gultony, greed, and lust for attention and and recogition makes the overall medium less and less desirable to participate in.
